4 Ways to Get Active in Chicago

One of the key factors in maintaining a healthy lifestyle is staying physically active, but “staying active” can mean much more than just another trip to the gym. Each month we are featuring ways to get active while still having fun in a different PT Solutions community. Follow along and commit to making 2017 a year filled with fun, active adventure!

Chicago has a wide range of fitness activities that can help you achieve your goals this year. The windy city has many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed solo, with a fitness group, friends, or family!

Take a hike!

Chicagoland is filled with awesome hiking options no matter where you’re based. Residents around Palatine should check out the peaceful Deer Grove Forest trail. For those in the Naperville or Bolingbrook areas, the Greene Valley Forest Preserve has scenic views and trails aplenty! If you’re anywhere near the Palos Forest Preserves, the connected trail system has options for every skill level. Just slightly north paths around the Argonne National Laboratory offer an easy hike up to the beautiful Waterfall Glen.

Boat through the windy city!

Take advantage of Lake Michigan and see Chicago from a different perspective. There are tons of sightseeing cruise options like Shoreline and Wendella. Seadog Cruises offers a more fast-paced option. Looking for a more athletic option? Urban Kayaks has you covered!

Hit the pavement!

No matter what part of Chicagoland you’re from, walking or biking around downtown Chicago is sure to be an adventure. Jump on two wheels with bike tours like Bobby’s Bike Hike or bring your own bike to casually pedal down the Lakefront Trail. Take a general stroll downtown and visit one of the many great museums the city has to offer like The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, and The Art Institute of Chicago just to name a few! Bringing little ones along? If you’re in the Hinsdale or LaGrange area, check out the Brookfield Zoo. If you’re near Naperville, the DuPage Children’s Museum is always a hit. Finally, if you’re around downtown Chicago, the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and Lincoln Park Zoo are all great options to get the family out and about!

Race to the finish line!

Chicagoland has no shortage of races for those looking to tap into their competitive side. Soak up the luck of the Irish at the Bolingbrook St. Patties Half Marathon on March 19. Looking for a challenge? Start preparing now for the Holidayman Triathalon in Somonauk. No finish lines here, but the Carol Stream Park District is hosting a JustPlay! Sports & Recreational Festival that’s sure to offer lots of friendly competition.
