But they billed our insurance at highly inflated rates, far above typical charges in Southeast Wisconsin. The total came out to over $1,700, with $1,453 billed to us out-of-pocket. I sent multiple letters disputing the charges and even filed a formal complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Ascension responded by doubling down and justifying their excessive fees — refusing to reduce them. The only remaining option is to take them to small claims court, but realistically, the legal costs would likely exceed what we owe.
