“Everyone is friendly and helpful”

“You know, I could tell you all the accolades. That this IS the only clinic in Tulsa that should even touch rare genetic conditions (because Madison cares enough to always be learning about what she doesn't know). I could tell you how professional they are from eval to discharge, how friendly they are to all walks of life, and how calming they are as PT easily became my favorite part of my day. I could tell you how Amanda creates a little board with trivia so you always have something to talk about, or how I can relax with Hannah because I know she will stay on top of my insurance, how all us patients are obsessed with the squirrels on the bird feeder, how much amusement the PT's got out of $1 flashlights, the animals balloons, and the completely random episodes of that aquarium builder show on tv. I could even tell you about the time I walked in quiet as a mouse trying to hide how much pain I felt due to my own internalized ableism just to be instantly clocked by Caleb who helped me through it while the whole office made me laugh harder than I have in years. But let me tell you the facts. When I walked in, I didn't know exactly what I needed, just that I was taking on average 4000 mgs of Ibuprofen a day at an unsustainable rate to alleviate disabling pain that never truly went away. That's 1000 mgs every 6-8 hours, which is 200 mgs over the short-term prescription dosage for surgeries. Sustaining this pattern long-term at 28 yrs would prematurely cause kidney failure, and the joint instability without any correction would eventually compound to permanent disablement. If to be honest, the pain didn’t get to me first. It's been a few months. But I haven't taken a pain pill in a really long time. There are still days that hurt, but they hurt much less. I feel healthier, I feel a little stronger, and more importantly, I have control again. I’m no longer trapped in my own body. I hope it’s clear that you can’t find people who care like this just anywhere, they’re truly a one in a million team. My only critique is that there's a therapist there that's addicted to dancing, and he won't stop (Miles). Huge thanks to Madison, Amanda, Hannah, Miles, and Caleb.
