ELBOW PAIN

Elbow pain and injuries are commonly found in athletes. These injuries include lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow), growth plate injury (little league elbow), and muscle strains. However, elbow injuries are not isolated to athletes. Repetitive use and gripping activities such as typing or gardening can lead to tendinopathy or nerve entrapments causing both pain in the elbow and radiating down the forearm.
At PT Solutions, a physical therapist, occupational therapist or certified hand therapist, will perform a full assessment of not only your elbow, but also the rest of your body that could be contributing to your elbow pain. For instance, tennis elbow is not just an elbow problem, as it often results from impairments in your shoulder. Nerve entrapment may be occurring at your elbow, but it could be stemming from neck issues instead. It is important to have a full assessment with your physical therapist to determine the root cause of your symptoms.
Manual therapy is used to decrease your symptoms at the elbow and allow your body to complete the necessary movements for rehabilitation. A strengthening program will be tailored to your diagnoses, current stage of healing, fitness level, and goals for treatment. We will target all the areas in your body contributing to the injury to not only improve your outcomes, but to also minimize your chance of future injury.
A progressive loading program is vital for rehabilitating any injury to a tendon. A loading program will help reduce pain and improve strength and endurance necessary for functional activity. Several manual therapy techniques, including local elbow manipulation can help decrease pain to allow for successful completion of necessary exercise program.
