Pelvic Floor

Physical Therapy for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

The nature of pelvic floor conditions can make seeking treatment embarrassing and uncomfortable. That’s why at PT Solutions your privacy is a top priority. In a one-on-one environment, our physical therapists will help guide you through a plan of care designed to improve the strength of your pelvic floor while reducing pain and dysfunction.

Although anyone can experience pelvic floor issues, women are at higher risk. Especially after giving birth. Damage or trauma in this area can result in the weakening of muscles. Physical therapists, as musculoskeletal experts, are uniquely positioned to help strengthen those muscles.

How Does Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Work?

As with every condition we treat, pelvic floor therapy at PT Solutions begins with a thorough evaluation to better understand your specific issues and past medical history. The focus here will be on the lumbar spine and hips, gait, and posture to determine a plan of care that’s right for you. Once it’s determined that therapy is the right path for you, your plan might consist of interventions such as:
  • Stretching or strengthening exercises of the legs, trunk, or pelvic muscles
  • Relaxation exercises for shortened pelvic muscles
  • Education in self-management and prevention
  • Coordination exercises
  • Biofeedback for either relaxation or strengthening of pelvic muscles
  • Modalities such as ice, heat, or electrical stimulation

Common Pelvic Floor Conditions

  • Urine accidents and leakage
  • Constipation
  • Urgency to urinate
